The world of business is interesting but it can also be very difficult to understand, particularly if you are just starting out. When I was just starting out, I was super confused by what I saw and heard. Thankfully, I had some friends who were experienced business managers. They gave me lots of fantastic advice and guidance as I prepared to start my new business. I have yet to start my new business venture but I now feel confident enough to share what I have learnt about business development. I hope you like this blog and that it helps you navigate the world of business.

Breastfeeding in Public: Top Tips

Rene Elliott

If you have recently given birth, you will want your child to have the best possible start in life. One way you can do this is to breastfeed them. The Australian Department of Health recommends that new mothers breastfeed their babies. However, many new mothers have concerns about breastfeeding in public. Below is a guide which contains some top tips which will help you to breastfeed your baby in public.

Wear the right clothing

If you are planning to breastfeed your child in public, you should make sure you are wearing the right clothing. Ideally, you will be wearing clothes which allow you to easily access your chest area. For example, you should wear a shirt with buttons which can be easily opened or a loose fitting t-shirt which can be lifted up over your breasts. You should try to avoid layers of clothes as this can make breastfeeding difficult as you will either need to remove the clothes or to try and lift or push them to one side.

Bring a baby bag

When heading out in public with your child, you should make sure you pack a baby bag. The baby bag should contain everything you might need when breastfeeding your child. For example, you should pack tissues or wet wipes so you can clean up once your baby has been fed. You may also wish to pack a bib and a towel which can be used to keep the baby and your clothes clean.

Find a good spot

When the time comes to feed your baby, you should seek out a good spot. This doesn't mean hiding away. What it means is finding somewhere which isn't too noisy as a peaceful atmosphere will help your baby to relax while they feed. The space should also be lit so you can see what you are doing. Finally, you should make such that the location you choose to breastfeed in clean so that your baby does not ingest germs.

Stay calm and confident

Unfortunately, some people still have a problem with people breastfeeding in public. However, it is important to remember that what you are doing is completely natural and in the best interest of your child. You can be confident that you are doing the right thing. If a member of the public objects to you breastfeeding in public, you should try to remain calm. Continue to breastfeed your baby and move away from the person who has made negative remarks.
